A return system is an integral component of any boiler set up. Learn more about exactly what a return system does, how it works, what benefits it can bring to your company, and what types of return systems are available from Rema Dri-Vac.

What Is a Return System?

Simply put, a return system is a water storage tank. The main tank is securely bolted to a stand, and there is an exterior sight glass so you can easily check water levels. A return system also includes a pump that pumps the water to the boiler and a float assembly to make sure the water level stays under control.

What Does a Return System Do?

As part of a boiler system, a return system’s main purpose is to feed water into the boiler whenever it requires more. The return system will also collect extra steam that was not used during the dry cleaning process.

How Does a Return System Work?

As mentioned, the return system has two purposes: store water so it is easily accessible to the boiler and collect unused steam to reuse it. Here is a closer look the logistics of these two processes:

  • The tank of the return system is connected to a pump that is then connected to the boiler. When the boiler is low on water, it will send a signal to the pump, which will cause the pump to turn on and suck out the water from the return system’s tank. After the tank is empty, it will refill itself with cold water.
  • When there is extra steam after a dry cleaning cycle, it travels through a pipe and is dispersed into the return tank. Through condensation, this steam turns into water and falls into the tank where it is then reused as fresh water for the boiler.
